West was the first senior enlisted leader to serve as Fleet Master Chief for both
operational fleets. Rick West became the 12th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) on December 12, 2008 and retired from active duty in January 2013.

Films Currently Playing at the Museum

Museum Theater: A Century of Silent Service: Part I 45 minute film covers the early history of the Submarine Force through WWII. Begins at top of each hour.

Mini-Theater: Forty One for Freedom 20 minute film covers the design, construction and purpose of the Navy’s earliest ballistic submarines during the Cold War. Continuous.
